Summer in Southwest Florida is the perfect time to make lasting memories with your furry companions! Whether you're soaking up the sun, hitting the road, or trying something new together, there are endless ways to include your pet in your summer adventures. At Heidi & Hope Pet Services, LLC, we believe in building strong bonds between pets and their people — and that includes having fun together. Here are some exciting (and pet-friendly) activities you can enjoy this summer, along with a few important tips to help keep your pet cool and safe in the Florida heat.

⚾ 1. Take Them Out to the Ball Game
Did you know many minor league and community baseball stadiums host "Bark in the Park" nights? These events are a great opportunity to enjoy America’s pastime with your pup in tow. Just be sure to bring a cooling mat, plenty of water, and stay in the shade when possible.
🌊 2. Hit the Water
If your dog loves the water, there’s no better way to beat the heat than by getting out on it! Whether you’re paddle boarding through calm bays, kayaking scenic mangroves, or cruising on a boat, many dogs enjoy the breeze and the splash. Always use a canine life vest and pack fresh drinking water and sunscreen (pet-safe, of course!).
🚗 3. Take a Pet-Friendly Road Trip
Florida offers some amazing road trip destinations with dog-friendly parks, beaches, and towns. Just make sure to plan plenty of breaks for potty stops, walks, and snacks as well as reseach pet-friendly lodging. Also, never leave your pet in a hot car, even for a few minutes!
🍷 4. Visit a Winery or Brewery
Many local breweries and wineries welcome dogs in their outdoor areas, making them the perfect spot to relax with your pet by your side. Bring a travel water bowl, keep them leashed, and don’t forget treats to reward their good behavior!
🥾 5. Take a Hike
Explore Florida’s beautiful trails with your four-legged hiking buddy. Choose shaded trails, go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day, and check the ground temperature before walking — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!
🎓 6. Enroll in a Pet Class
Looking for something active but indoors? Sign up for a training class, agility course, or enrichment program. These activities are not only fun, but they also help build confidence, improve obedience, and keep your pet mentally stimulated.
🌞 Tips for Keeping Your Pet Cool in the Heat:
Stay Hydrated: Always carry water for both you and your pet.
Avoid Midday Heat: Plan walks and outdoor activities in the early morning or evening.
Use Cooling Products: Cooling vests, mats, and bandanas can help regulate your pet’s temperature.
Watch for Signs of Overheating: Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or confusion are all signs your pet may be overheating. If you notice any of these, find shade immediately and offer water.
Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even with windows cracked, car temperatures can rise dangerously fast.
No matter how you choose to spend your summer in Southwest Florida, remember that your pet just wants to be by your side. By planning ahead and taking a few safety precautions, you can enjoy an unforgettable season of sunshine and tail wags.
